BirdNET is the Shazam for birdsong identification

Before buying a nesting box, it’s really important to make sure you know which birds live near you. If you buy the wrong size, the birds won’t be able to get inside. You’ll be left with an empty nest.

To help you identify your future guests, we propose the free app birdNET, developed by Stefan Kahl and his interdisciplinary team of biologists and engineers in the Cornell Lab.

All you have to do is go outside and record the birds singing. The app will analyse the sound and show you the top matches. Once you know which birds you’ll be offering a home to, you can choose the right size nesting box via our menu.
